blank canvas
My first brush with blogging.
Welcome to my first blog post—a long-awaited space where I will share my artistic journey. As I embark on this new chapter, I want to give you a behind-the-scenes look into my creative process and my inspiration. From the sketchbook ideas to the finished oils on canvas.
The Art of Evolution
For years, I've promised myself a blog, and with the recent revamp of my website, it feels like the perfect moment to begin. Join me on this new chapter that reveals some of what goes on inside my head! From the inception of an idea to the final brushstrokes on canvas, I'll unveil the stories behind my paintings, sketches, and creative endeavours. I will also share my process and favourite materials etc along the way too.
January Musings
I’m always happy to see January out of the way - it’s always such a dark and miserable month that ends with a tax bill! Every year, I wish I could just pack a bag and take the family away for a month!
As I flip the page of the new Emma S Davis calendar to February, I'm greeted by the vibrant image of 'Fairy Fields and Thistles’. This is a 24” oil painting on linen, fondly titled by my imaginative 10-year-old, who has always called dandelion seeds ‘fairies’. A field of fairies can only be uplifting, surely?
Commissioned Chronicles
In recent weeks, my studio has been a hub of commissioned pieces. Each piece is dedicated to capturing special places for special events, a task I undertake with joy and meticulous attention. Stay tuned here, and on my social media channels, for glimpses into these personalised artworks. I love working on personalised paintings and hearing the stories behind the pieces I have been asked to create. I do love a wee story!
Exhibitions and Art Fairs
The upcoming months are busy with gallery commitments and art fairs. I'll keep you updated on opening nights, showcases, and any art-related events. I exhibit my paintings in galleries throughout the UK, and have representation at many art fairs also.
Navigating the Enhanced Website
Notably, the website has undergone a transformation - perhaps you’ve already noticed? The home screen is now more intuitive, offering a cleaner interface. It serves as a gateway to explore various products as well as giving an insight into studio life. A new addition, the "Original Paintings" page, marks a milestone. For the first time, you can directly purchase original artworks from the website, alongside the limited edition prints and other printed products. The “Original Paintings” page will be ever-changing, so please make sure to re-visit on a regular basis. Another option is to connect with me on the various social platforms, such as Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn where I regularly update on what I’m working on.
Journey Through Time
The "About Me" section has evolved to offer a more personal touch. It's a narrative journey—from childhood dreams to art school, early successes, awards, receiving my RSW diploma, encounters with royalty, marriage, and the joys of juggling parenthood and 2 hairy golden retrievers with self employment!
Visual Delights
You'll find cleaner, 3D-rendered images of my products throughout the website. I will be adding new work to the prints and tiles soon. New places to add to the collection which means more sketchbook travels! Any ideas of places to explore are always welcome. The video above is of me, my girls and the dogs on the stunningly beautiful beach at Dornoch. This was a trip that I made to do a commissioned piece at the nearby Skibo Castle.
Connect Beyond the Canvas
Buttons leading to my social media profiles—Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn—are now conveniently placed on every page. It's a seamless way to engage, share, and be part of a broader artistic community.
As I pen down these thoughts, I envision this blog becoming a space where art enthusiasts, collectors, and those curious about the creative process can find inspiration. Hope you enjoy these little insights and join me on my journey. Your thoughts and feedback are not just welcomed—they're eagerly anticipated.
Once again, thank you for your continued support - it is truly appreciated.
